Joe Komarek is completing his B.A. in music composition at Linfield College, where he studies under Richard Bourassa and Jon Newton. He began writing original electronic music at age 14, before developing a love for classical music two years later. Though he has written various instrumental chamber works, his heart lies with vocal compositions - a reflection on ten years of choral singing. Komarek has been involved with the Oregon Bach Festival Composer’s Symposium as well as the Tallis Scholars Summer School (USA). In 2012, Komarek became a member of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP). He plans to pursue a master’s degree in composition after graduating from Linfield in the Spring of 2014.

Oregon Connection: Born and raised in the beautiful state of Oregon. As a native Portlandian, I have been involved with a variety of ensembles in the Portland metro area, including the Portland Boychoir, Ovation!, Satori Men's Chorus, Aurora Women's Chorus, and a few others. Through these experiences, I have had the honor of working with Oregon-based professionals such as Steve Peter, David York, Robert Kyr, Kyla Cummins-Zollitsch, and Joan Szymko. My decade-long history with Oregon choirs has been a tremendous influence in my music, which primarily consists of choral or vocal works.
